Streamlining IP Portfolio Integrity
Situation
A US based law firm with an IP portfolio of approximately 300 clients and approximately 1500 active US patent matters. During their business review, it was noted that 5% of matters required a CoC to be filed. This had incurred additional costs as well as goodwill of the firm.
It was identified that most errors could have been easily rectified before the grant if reviewed in detail.
Problem
The primary reason for the error was determined to be a lack of attention to detail during allowance as a detailed review was not being conducted upon receipt of a notice of allowance from USPTO.
Solution
We offered to conduct a post-allowance review on all the matters that had an upcoming due date for issuing fee payments. 50 notice of allowance documents were reviewed, out of which 2 had errors. One matter had the incorrect claim numbers listed while priority information was missing in the other.
Results
The client signed a contract with us for conducting post-allowance reviews and another for IDS review, preparation, and filing.
